About the piece
A cradle song composed in 1843 and 1844, built on one of the simplest premises in Chopin's output: the left hand rocks between two chords almost without change from the first bar to the last, while the right hand spins an ever more elaborate chain of variations above it.
The result is a piece that seems to stand still and to keep transforming at the same time. Its filigree demands a feather-light touch, and it is far harder to play well than its gentle surface suggests.

Frédéric François Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the early Romantic period who wrote primarily for solo piano.
