About the piece
Three studies Chopin composed in 1839, not for his own opus series but as a contribution to the Methode des methodes de piano, a teaching anthology compiled by Ignaz Moscheles and Francois-Joseph Fetis.
Quieter and more inward than the famous Op. 10 and Op. 25 sets, they focus on subtler problems, chiefly the control of conflicting rhythms between the hands, and are often overlooked despite containing some of his most refined small-scale writing.

Frédéric François Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the early Romantic period who wrote primarily for solo piano. He has maintained worldwide renown as a leading composer of his era whose "poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation".
