About the piece

Variations for harp by Sophia Dussek, a Scottish-born singer, pianist and harpist who performed professionally in London from her teens and published a substantial body of music under her own name. She was a genuine professional in an era that rarely permitted it: she sang at the Handel Commemoration, performed as a soloist, and continued composing and teaching after her husband Jan Ladislav Dussek abandoned her and fled the country to escape his debts.
