About the piece
Eighteen character studies, the most demanding of Burgmuller's three study collections and, as the title page states, designed to follow the easy studies of Op. 100.
By this stage the pieces have grown into genuine concert miniatures. Where Op. 100 gives a student a single problem in a page, these are longer, harmonically richer and require real interpretive judgment as well as fingers.

Friedrich Burgmüller
1806–1874
Johann Friedrich Franz Burgmüller, generally known as Friedrich Burgmuller was a German pianist and composer during the Romantic period. He is perhaps best known for his three collections of children's etudes for the piano, particularly his Op. 100 "25 Études faciles et progressives" for early intermediate students. The other two collections, for more advanced students, were Op. 105 and 109.
