About the piece
A widely reprinted collection of Moscheles studies, standard teaching material through much of the nineteenth century.
His playing was said to represent an older, cleaner classical style, and he was uneasy about the new virtuosity of Liszt and Thalberg, whose effects he found showy. That conservatism made him an ideal teacher for students needing discipline before brilliance.

Ignaz Moscheles
1794–1870
Isaac Ignaz Moscheles was a Bohemian piano virtuoso and composer. He was based initially in London and later in Leipzig, where he joined his friend and sometime pupil Felix Mendelssohn as professor of piano in the Conservatory.
