About the piece
Troldtog, usually translated March of the Dwarfs or March of the Trolls, is the third piece in the fifth book of Grieg's Lyric Pieces, published in 1891. It is among the most vivid of all his miniatures.
Rapid, muttering figures in the outer sections suggest a horde of trolls scurrying past in the dark, while the central trio opens into serene, sustained calm, as though the procession has passed and the forest is quiet again.

Edvard Grieg
1843–1907
Edvard Hagerup Grieg was a Norwegian composer and pianist. He is widely considered one of the leading Romantic era composers, and his music is part of the standard classical repertoire worldwide. His use of Norwegian folk music in his own compositions brought the music of Norway to fame, as well as helping to develop a national identity, much as Jean Sibelius did in Finland and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia.
