About the piece
Sonatinas written in 1905, applying the classical small-scale form to Reger's own harmonic language, which was chromatic to a degree that unsettled many of his contemporaries.
He was a devoted student of Bach and described him as the beginning and end of all music, and even in pieces of this modest scale the contrapuntal thinking is unmistakable.

Max Reger
1873–1916
Johann Baptist Joseph Maximilian Reger was a German composer, pianist, organist, conductor, and academic teacher. He worked as a concert pianist, a musical director at the Leipzig University Church, a professor at the Royal Conservatory in Leipzig, and a music director at the court of George II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen.
