About the piece

A sonatina from the body of teaching material that has kept Diabelli's own music in circulation, sitting alongside Clementi's Op. 36 and Kuhlau's sonatinas in the standard student progression. He was a shrewd and generally decent publisher who supported Schubert when few others would, issuing a substantial quantity of his music, though the terms were not always to the composer's advantage.
