About the piece
One of the six sonatinas of Op. 36, published in 1797 and probably the most widely taught set of their kind ever written. Clementi designed them as a bridge between simple pieces and full classical sonatas.
Their appeal for teachers is that they are genuine sonata forms in miniature: a student learns the shape of an exposition and recapitulation on a scale small enough to grasp whole, with music that is genuinely pleasant to play rather than merely instructive.
