About the piece
A collection from Raff's maturity, when he was among the most performed composers in Europe and his symphonies were programmed alongside Brahms's.
He composed with extraordinary fluency, producing over two hundred opus numbers including eleven symphonies. The sheer quantity was later held against him, and his reputation has only recently begun to recover through recordings.
