About the piece
A suite of three movements completed in 1901, taking old keyboard forms as its starting point in the same spirit as the earlier Suite bergamasque, but with a far harder edge.
The Prelude is percussive and driving, the Sarabande grave and modal, and the closing Toccata a brilliant perpetual-motion finale that has become one of Debussy's most frequently performed pieces. Ravel greatly admired the Sarabande.

Achille Claude Debussy was a French composer, born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. He is sometimes seen as the first Impressionist composer, although he vigorously rejected the term. He was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
