About the piece
A polonaise published posthumously, in the stately Polish processional dance form that had become a staple of European concert music well before Chopin transformed it.
Burgmuller studied with Spohr in Kassel and moved in the circle around Mendelssohn in Dusseldorf, and his music reflects the mainstream of German Romanticism as it stood in the 1830s.

August Joseph Norbert Burgmüller was a German composer, renowned for his contributions during the nascent stages of the Romantic Era. His oeuvre, albeit cut tragically short due to his untimely drowning at the age of 26, continues to resonate in the annals of classical music.
