About the piece

A sonata by Norbert Burgmuller, the younger brother of the Friedrich Burgmuller whose teaching studies every piano student knows, and a composer of a completely different order of ambition. He died in 1836 at twenty six, apparently after an epileptic seizure while bathing. Schumann wrote that after Schubert's early death, none was more deplorable than Burgmuller's, and Schumann completed the scherzo of his unfinished second symphony as a memorial.
