About the piece
Another of the six sonatas Haydn published in 1780 with a dedication to the Auenbrugger sisters. Warm and genial in character, it sits at the accessible end of the set.
Haydn told his publisher Artaria that the six sonatas were varied deliberately so that each would suit a different taste, and this one represents the relaxed, conversational side of his keyboard writing.

Joseph Haydn
1732–1809
Franz Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He was pivotal in the evolution of chamber music forms like the string quartet and piano trio. His contributions to musical form have led him to be called "Father of the Symphony", "Father of the String quartet" and "Father of Sonata form".
