About the piece
One of the longest and most extravagantly ambitious piano concertos ever written: five movements running past seventy minutes and calling, in the finale, for a hidden male chorus singing a hymn to Allah from a Danish verse drama.
Busoni was among the greatest pianists of his era and a composer, theorist and teacher of enormous range. The concerto is performed rarely, both because of its demands and because its sheer scale defeats normal programming.

Ferruccio Dante Michelangiolo Benvenuto Busoni was an Italian composer, pianist, conductor, editor, writer, and teacher. His international career and reputation led him to work closely with many of the leading musicians, artists and literary figures of his time, and he was a sought-after keyboard instructor and a teacher of composition.
