About the piece

A German edition of Field's nocturnes, published as the pieces circulated across Europe and established the genre in the decades before Chopin took it up. Field spent most of his career in Russia, having travelled there with his teacher Clementi as a demonstrator of the firm's pianos and then simply stayed, becoming a celebrated teacher in St Petersburg and Moscow.
