About the piece

A set of lyrical pieces from a composer whose enormous output covered every genre and who was regarded in his lifetime as a guardian of the classical tradition against the Wagnerian tide. Reinecke holds a remarkable distinction: born in 1824, he made piano rolls in 1905, making him the earliest-born pianist whose playing can still be heard, a direct sonic link back to the generation that had known Beethoven's pupils.
