About the piece
The third book of Grieg's Lyric Pieces, published in 1886 and among the most popular of the ten. Its six numbers include Butterfly, with its fluttering right-hand figuration, and To Spring, a piece of surging warmth that became one of Grieg's greatest popular successes.
By this book the miniatures have grown from the plain sketches of the first set into fully realized character pieces, richer in harmony and more demanding under the hands.

Edvard Grieg
1843–1907
Edvard Hagerup Grieg was a Norwegian composer and pianist. He is widely considered one of the leading Romantic era composers, and his music is part of the standard classical repertoire worldwide. His use of Norwegian folk music in his own compositions brought the music of Norway to fame, as well as helping to develop a national identity, much as Jean Sibelius did in Finland and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia.
