About the piece
Drops of Water, a caprice-study and the best known piece by Joseph Ascher, a Dutch-born pianist who settled in Paris and served as court pianist to the Empress Eugenie.
Water pieces were a nineteenth century staple, from Liszt's fountains to Sinding's spring, all exploiting the piano's capacity for continuous rippling figuration, and this one was popular enough to be transcribed for other instruments.

Joseph Simon Ascher was a Dutch-Jewish composer and pianist. He lived in Paris and London for most of his life.
