Le Carnaval de Venise, Op.37

Variations on the Carnival of Venice, a Neapolitan tune that became one of the most relentlessly varied melodies of the nineteenth century. Paganini's set made it famous, and dozens of composers followed with versions for every instrument. Oesten's treatment is aimed at the amateur rather than the virtuoso, offering the pleasure of a familiar tune transformed without the technical demands that made Paganini's version a showpiece.
