La fille aux cheveux de lin

The Girl with the Flaxen Hair is the eighth prelude of Debussy's first book, composed around 1910. Its title comes from a poem by Charles-Marie Leconte de Lisle, part of a set of imagined Scottish songs, describing a young woman sitting among flowering alfalfa in the summer light. Built largely on a simple pentatonic melody and among the shortest and most approachable pieces Debussy wrote, it has become one of his most frequently performed works, arranged for nearly every instrument.
