About the piece

The Konzertstuck in F minor, completed in 1821 on the morning of the Freischutz premiere. Weber described its program to his students: a lady waits for her knight, who has gone to the crusades; she fears him dead; then his banner appears in the distance and he returns. Cast in a single continuous movement rather than the conventional three, it became a model for the one-movement concertos of Liszt and others, and Liszt performed it frequently throughout his career.
