Rustle of Spring, published in 1896 as the third of six pieces, and one of the great popular successes of the late nineteenth century piano repertoire. A broad melody rings out through a continuous shimmer of rapid arpeggios suggesting wind through new leaves. It sold in vast quantities and became a fixture of the domestic piano, and it is effective enough that its difficulty is often underestimated: keeping the figuration even while the tune sings above it is genuinely demanding.
