About the piece
The second of Debussy's Deux Arabesques, published alongside the first in 1891. Where its companion is dreamy and flowing, this arabesque is quick and playful, built on crisp repeated-note figures and a dancing energy that looks back to Couperin and Rameau, composers Debussy admired.
Though written when he was still in his twenties, it already shows the light touch and clarity that would define his mature piano writing.

Claude Debussy

Achille Claude Debussy was a French composer, born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. He is sometimes seen as the first Impressionist composer, although he vigorously rejected the term. He was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
