About the piece
A canzonetta, a little song, in the graceful French idiom Pierne cultivated throughout a long and varied career as composer, organist and conductor.
He had won the Prix de Rome in 1882, studying with Massenet and Franck, and his music sits comfortably in the tradition running from Faure toward the lighter side of the French twentieth century.
