About the piece
The Wild Horseman, eighth in the Album for the Young, and one of the best known pieces in the whole collection. A galloping compound rhythm tosses the melody between the hands as the rider charges past.
Its combination of an irresistible image and genuine technical value, teaching hand alternation and rhythmic drive, has made it a fixture of beginner recitals for well over a century.
