About the piece
The twenty sixth piece in the Album for the Young carries no title at all, only a row of asterisks where a name would be. Schumann left several pieces in the collection unnamed in this way.
The omission is deliberate. Having spent the first half of the album attaching a vivid picture to almost every piece, he now asks the young player to listen and decide for themselves what the music is about.
