About the piece
The Happy Farmer Returning from Work, tenth in the Album for the Young, and probably the most famous piece Schumann wrote for children.
Its lesson is a specific and important one: the tune is given to the left hand, not the right, so the student must learn to bring out a melody in the weaker hand while keeping the right-hand chords subdued. That reversal of the expected balance is the whole point of the piece.
