About the piece
Nine salon pieces from Rubinstein's early output, written for the domestic market that sustained most nineteenth century composers financially.
The salon piece was a genre with clear conventions: short, melodically generous, technically within reach of a competent amateur, and printed in large quantities. Rubinstein produced a great deal of such music alongside the symphonies and operas on which he staked his serious reputation.

Anton Rubinstein
1829–1894
Anton Grigoryevich Rubinstein was a Russian pianist, composer and conductor who founded the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. He was the elder brother of Nikolai Rubinstein, who founded the Moscow Conservatory.
