About the piece
The three sonatinas of Op. 20, the most famous set Kuhlau wrote and among the most frequently assigned pieces in piano teaching anywhere.
Their value lies in proportion. They are difficult enough to require real work but short enough to be learned whole, and they give a student the experience of playing a complete multi-movement classical work years before the full sonatas become reachable.

Friedrich Kuhlau
1786–1832
Friedrich Daniel Rudolf Kuhlau, sometimes written as Frederick Kulav, was a Danish pianist and composer during the late Classical and early Romantic periods. He was a central figure of the Danish Golden Age and is immortalized in Danish cultural history through his music for Elves' Hill, the first true work of Danish National Romanticism and a concealed tribute to the absolute monarchy.
